Charity Auction for Ukraine a Great Success

On Friday 1^st April, TheStudios hosted a charity auction in aid of the Ukraine crisis. The event was held at TheStudios bar with residents and staff taking part in the auction. Up for the bidding were hotel stays, theatre tickets plus many more items kindly donated by local businesses.

Over £1,300 Raised for Ukraine in Charity Auction

The auction and buffet started at 8 PM, with Dave Gourley, Hospitality Manager hosting. Dave Gourley explains how the event came about:

“I was inspired by seeing the devasting scenes unfolding on the news and was also approached by Emily, a resident of TheStudios. We knew we wanted to help, so put our heads together and came up with the idea of a Charity Auction. We wanted all proceeds of the event to go direct to the frontline via the Salvation Army.”

Residents turned up in their numbers on the night and raised the following:

£552 from the charity auction

£108 from ticket sales

£15 from the raffle

And over another £700 from donations!

Over £1,300 was raised by generous residents and staff for this urgent cause! The auction was then followed by live music from local musician Josh.

Marking World Health Day

Today is international World Health Day! Inaugurated by the World Health Assembly in 1950, it promotes awareness of health as a human right globally. Every year a different theme and focus are presented, with the primary goal of promoting access to the best health care, no matter who you are.

Healthy people, healthier planet

This year, the focus is on urgent actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), an estimated 13 million or more deaths will be caused by avoidable environmental causes. Although the world is still struggling through the pandemic, the climate crisis is undeniably the greatest health crisis.

Now more than ever, World Health Day is an important time to be mindful of your own health, those close to you and around the world. Over 90% of people still breathe unhealthy air due to the continued use of fossil fuels. There are food and water shortages due to weather events, and plastic is entering the food chain.

The World Health Organisation has underlined the urgency to create well-being societies committed to achieving equitable health. Now and for future generations, it’s possible to enact change for yourself, locally, nationally, and globally.

Dance the night away this Friday!

Now that we have set the world to rights, fancy a dance this Friday? If you’re around this weekend in Wolverhampton Gilberts Bar is holding a ‘Thank God it’s Friday Salsa Party’!

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer, this monthly event is a great way to get out, have fun and meet new people. Who knows, you might develop a brand new talent?

Gilbert’s Bar boasts excellent dance floor Air condition rooms, a fully stocked bar and easy free parking and access. On the night expect special guest teachers each month, free bottles of wine and an abundance of dancers of all levels.
