Here at TheStudios, we love being part of Wolverhampton’s community and providing those living with us and everyone in the city with information about the top attractions, events and things to do.
Here’s our list of the top Christmas events in Wolverhampton you can’t miss this year!
City Centre Christmas Lights
· Date: Saturday 22nd November
Begin the season with Wolverhampton’s Christmas lights switch on, taking place on Queen Square in the centre. The city centre will be filled with plenty of family-friendly activities, including a special performance by jazz vocalist Andrew Bourn. Indulge in artisan food, mulled wine, face painting and a range of fun attractions.
Wolverhampton Christmas Market
· Date: December 12-18th
Forget the Birmingham Christmas market, Wolverhampton’s is on a whole other level and far more affordable. Dudley Street will be sprawling with colourful lights and stalls manned by local traders with a range of products, food and drink and services. On each day, the market will be open from 10am-5pm, plenty of time to discover the perfect gifts, eat fantastic food and spend time with the local community.
Winterland Wolverhampton
· Date: Open daily from Friday 29th November
Market Square will be transformed into a winter wonderland, where the whole family can hit the ice and skate to their heart’s content. It’ll be quite cold, so as well as wrapping up warm, you’ll also want to grab a bite to eat. Delicious highlights at this year’s food stalls are Yorkshire pudding wraps, Dutch pancakes, pizza and other festive treats. And to top it all off, Winterland Wolverhampton is also featuring several funfair rides courtesy of the Harry Jones Company. Make sure to wait at least half an hour after your Yorkshire pudding wrap!
Christmas Afternoon Tea at Bantock House
· Date: 1st December – 21st December, 11:30 am – 2:30 pm
Enjoy the historic warmth of Bantock House Museum while indulging in afternoon tea and a spread of fine culinary offerings. For those looking for some festive comfort food, go for afternoon tea in Bantock’s café and feast on sandwiches, beetroot and horseradish on wholemeal bread, home-baked gammon and wholegrain mustard, applewood cheddar and chutney, goat’s cheese and more. There’ll of course be other treats with a festive spin, including Christmas sausage rolls, cakes and scones.
Santa’s Ice Palace at Mander Shopping Centre
· Date: 15th – 23rd December
Santa’s Ice Palace is coming to Wolverhampton’s Mander Centre to spread Christmas cheer. The shopping centre will be dressed in all things Christmassy, from snow-dusted trees to shimmering lights and little helper houses. Children will also be able to pay Santa a visit, share their Christmas wishes and leave with an age-appropriate gift. Mark Sunday 21st on your calendars, because for one day only, Santa’s Ice Palace is getting a visit from the one and only Grinch! He’ll turn the palace into Grumpy’s Grotto, which is said to be full of festive surprises.
Sleeping Beauty at The Grand Theatre
· Date: 2nd December – 4th January
Wolverhampton Grand Theatre brings Sleeping Beauty, with shows throughout December and into the new year. The cast alone is reason enough to go, with the likes of RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Danny Beard, impressionist Debra Stephenson and panto legends Tam Ryan and Ian Adams. Sleeping Beauty at the Grand Theatre will feature classic panto shenanigans, ideal for families after a festive laugh this season.
Christmas at Wightwick Manor and Gardens
· Date: 28th November – 4th January
Wightwick Manor is going all out this year with a range of festive activities. The manor and gardens are being decorated from top to bottom with traditional Victorian decorations that feature William and May Morris patterns and Morris & Co. designs. Real decorated trees, candlelight arrangements, knitted snowmen and special ‘Manor’-quins are just some of the festive decorations put on display by talented volunteers. Over the Christmas season, Wightwick Manor also has several outdoor and indoor trails to walk around, as well as live music from harpist and pianist Ann Lombardi, as well as various Christmas crafting workshops, perfect for new decorations to hang on the Christmas tree.
