How to keep your spirits up through the non-Christmas winter months

It’s the same every year – although cold and dark, the beginning of winter is an exciting, whimsical, and festive time, what with Halloween, Guy Fawkes Night, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve. But once it’s the New Year, everything is just… cold and dark. Without the celebratory distractions, this time of the year can seem incredibly bleak and joyless, often feeling like you’re just pulling through until Spring. But it doesn’t have to be like that! There are loads of fun things you can do to make it a more enjoyable and exciting time, so that instead of just waiting for Spring, you won’t want it to end!

Maximise cosiness

When all you want to do is stay inside, make the most of your indoor space! Get out all the jumpers, fluffy socks, blankets, cushions, and fairy lights you can find, and make your space as cosy and warm as possible. Read books, watch wintery films, and just make the most of it!

Make Valentine’s Day a real celebration

There are pretty much no celebrations in between New Year’s Eve and Easter, except for one… Valentine’s Day! And whilst Valentine’s Day might seem a slightly exclusive holiday that not everyone can celebrate, why let that stop you? Whether your partnered up or not, use it as an excuse to celebrate and treat yourself! Take yourself out for dinner, have a relaxing night in, watch a film, anything you want! Just make sure to make a massive occasion of it, and whatever you do, do it to the most!

Cook comforting meals

Before long, you’ll want to drink refreshing, fruity drinks and cold dishes, so make the most of the season and treat yourself to bowls and mugs of warm, comforting, and delicious food and drinks. Stock up on the cinnamon, ginger, and stock cubes, and spend the next few months eating all the soups, stews, curries, chai lattes, pies, gingerbread, and mulled wine you can!

Winter activities with friends and family

Just because it’s cold and dark outside, you don’t have to completely hibernate all the time! Winter can still be beautiful without the Christmas lights and fireworks, so why not get out there and enjoy it? With the outdoor markets, parks, and loads of beautiful forests and grasslands both in and right outside the city, there’s so much nature and beauty to explore, so wrap up warm, grab your friends and family, and enjoy!
