5 towns and villages outside Wolverhampton to visit after lockdown

Living in a city centre over lockdown has been hard – we’re bored, cramped, and gasping for some fresh air and freedom. And whilst the walks around our local park may be a welcome break, the thick smog and screeching cars make it difficult to forget that you are still only a minute away from the dual carriageway. Hopefully, the day will soon come when we can get out of our local areas, and freely roam greener pastures – until then, all we can do is dream. So, here are 5 stunningly serene towns and villages just outside Wolverhampton to visit after lockdown.

Belbroughton

Famous for The Queens Pub and Restaurant, a favourite of locals since the 16^th Century, and the perfect spot for a Sunday Roast, Belbroughton is the perfect city-break location. Just West of Birmingham, at the centre of a larger network of villages, green fields, and country roads, Belbroughton is the quintessential, idyllic, English village.

Himley

About 6 miles South of Wolverhampton you’ll find the small village of Himley, home to the wonderfully grand and Instagram-worthy Himley Hall, which lies in 200 acres of expansive land, perfect for walking, running, and picnicking. You’ll also find the Crooked House – a pub which stands at a 15 degree angle – and a magnificent church, among countless other mesmerising marvels waiting to be discovered.

Brewood

Brewood lies about 8 miles North of Wolverhampton, and is home to the intricately decorated and beautifully striking Speedwell Castle. Whilst it is usually a quaint and quiet town, perfect for secret escapes and peaceful getaways, Brewood is also home to many markets and music festivals, so don’t discount it if you’re also looking for an adventure.

Wombourne

Winner of the Best Kept Village Award in 2011, Wombourne’s beautiful landscapes and scenic canal views make it a must-see destination for all country-side lovers and Sunday-walkers. Originally an agricultural village, having been mentioned in the Domesday Book almost 1000 years ago, Wombourne also has an incredibly rich history in which to immerse yourself, ideal for a culture-filled, post-lockdown day out.

Bridgnorth

Residing on a hill dotted with charming buildings, luscious greenery, and a picture-perfect church sitting proudly atop, Bridgnorth is perhaps the ultimate in vivid views and photo opportunities. Also, with the River Severn splitting the town right down the middle, complete with steep banks and a peaceful promenade, there is arguably no better place in the country for a lazy weekend walk.
