We can proudly say TheStudios is considered one of the best places to live in Wolverhampton, and although there are many facilities to enjoy within TheStudios, there is much to experience in Wolverhampton’s surrounding areas too. One of the advantages of living in a bustling city like Wolverhampton is all the activities and events going on and places to explore, along with its proximity to some historic and quaint towns and villages. That’s why we have compiled a list of 5 stunningly serene towns and villages just outside Wolverhampton.
1. Belbroughton
- Distance from Wolverhampton: 18 miles
Belbroughton is perfect for a weekend of peace and tranquillity. The town is roughly 18 miles south of the centre of Wolverhampton and is famous for its annual scarecrow weekend. Held during the last weekend of September, the event, which has been running since 1996, has raised tens of thousands for local organisations. Just west of Birmingham, at the centre of a larger network of villages, green fields and country roads, Belbroughton is also located near the Licky Hills, a popular country park which is said to have been the inspiration for The Shire from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

2. Himley
- Distance from Wolverhampton: 6 miles
Just six miles south of TheStudios on the Stourbridge Road, take in the greenery of the wonderfully grand and Instagram-worthy Himley Hall, which lies in 200 acres of expansive land, perfect for walking, running and picnicking. You’ll also find the Himley Hall Golf Centre and a magnificent church, as Himley offers many sights perfect for unwinding or exploring. Until its illegal demolition in August 2023, Himley was also home to the famous 260-year-old Crooked House Pub. Serene, historic and green, Himley is one of the best places to visit near Wolverhampton.

3. Brewood
- Distance from Wolverhampton: 8 miles
Brewood is eight miles north of Wolverhampton and is home to the intricately designed Speedwell Castle and the ruins of historic priories. The Shropshire Union Canal passes Brewood to the west – an ideal spot for a gentle stroll. Completed in 1835, the canal was the last major engineering project of Thomas Telford, who passed away just six months before it opened.

4. Wombourne
- Distance from Wolverhampton: 5 miles
Bordering Wolverhampton to the southwest, just five miles from TheStudios, Wombourne’s historic charm, beautiful landscapes and scenic canals make it a must-see destination for all countryside lovers. Sunday walkers will appreciate the trails of Highgate Common Wildlife Reserve. One of Wolverhampton’s most popular surrounding areas, the village is home to the Wombourne Carnival and is considered a quintessential English village to wander around, with plenty of countryside views and lots of activities to take part in.

5. Bridgnorth
- Distance from Wolverhampton: 14 miles
Our last place to visit in Wolverhampton’s surrounding areas is the market town of Bridgnorth. Residing on a hill, Bridgnorth is perhaps the ultimate for vivid views and photo opportunities.
